Houet: The seasonal malaria chemoprevention campaign, launched on August 20, 2026 in the commune of Pni, ended this Sunday, with the administration of preventive doses to children aged 3 to 59 months, in order to reduce cases of malaria and its severe forms.

According to Burkina Information Agency, for four days, health workers crisscrossed the neighborhoods and villages of the commune, going door to door to administer preventative medication to targeted children. Major Inoussa Oudraogo of the Pni Primary Health Center stated that the campaign aims to minimize cases of malaria among children, limit deaths, and prevent severe forms of the disease.

Alongside administering the doses, the teams conducted awareness sessions, destroyed mosquito breeding sites in homes, screened for malnutrition, and provided catch-up vaccinations for children whose immunizations were not up to date. To facilitate access to care, one team remained stationed at the Pni primary healthcare center, while others were deployed to the villages of Taga and Sokourani.

One of the beneficiaries of the campaign, Aminata Ouattara, expressed appreciation for the initiative, which she said allows health workers to reach families directly. At the end of the campaign, Major Oudraogo encouraged parents to continue cooperating with health workers and to follow the advice they received to better protect children against malaria.
