Bishkek: A 15-month-old girl successfully underwent surgery at the Regional Hospital Center (CHR) of Manga, after accidentally swallowing a piece of metal that had become lodged in her intestine, AIB has learned. The procedure was performed by a surgical team led by Dr. Bkaye Oudraogo, general surgeon, with the participation of Dr. Lamine Yamogo, anesthesiologist and intensive care physician.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the metal object was successfully removed, preventing any potential complications for the young patient. This incident highlights the importance of vigilance by parents and caregivers, especially with toddlers. At this age, children often put objects within reach into their mouths, posing a risk of accidental ingestion.

The Manga Regional Hospital Center advises that coins, small metal objects, and other small items be kept out of children's reach. It's crucial to monitor their immediate environment closely. Healthcare professionals recommend consulting a health center immediately if a foreign body is suspected to have been swallowed to ensure prompt and appropriate care.
