High Commissioner Urges Support for Local Burkinabe Production to Boost Economy

Kourittenga:The High Commissioner of Kourittenga province, Moctar Ilboudo, has encouraged the local population to favor local products to bolster national production and enhance the Burkinabe economy. This appeal was made during the raising of the national colors on Monday, October 5, 2026.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony gathered administrative, customary and religious authorities, development partners, civil society organizations, and the local population. Moctar Ilboudo read the official message from the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, during the launch of phase 2 of the 3rd edition of the National Days of Patriotic Engagement and Citizen Participation (JEPPC), which is scheduled from October 2 to 16, 2026.

This phase, under the theme "Let's produce Burkinabe, let's consume Burkinabe!" promotes the slogan "All for Made in Burkina: Let's make every purchase an act of sovereignty". The message highlighted three major challenges to achieving economic independence: insufficient agricultural equipment and inputs, exportation of raw materials like cotton and shea without local processing, and a consumer preference for imported goods.

Ilboudo encouraged farmers to increase production as part of the Agropastoral Offensive. Women and artisans were urged to enhance local processing capacity for products such as soumbala, shea butter, Faso Dan Fani, and kôkô donda. He also criticized fraudulent practices, smuggling, speculation, and the evasion of national preference in public procurement.

To implement national preference, Ilboudo outlined several strategies, including prioritizing local products in the market, incorporating them into public procurement, school and administrative canteens, serving local dishes at events, and showcasing national products in shops. He praised all stakeholders for their participation during the Night of the RPP in Tenkodogo on September 30th.
