Pouytenga Hosts Weekly 15km Walk to Foster Health and Social Ties

Pouytenga:A group of individuals gathered at the Pouytenga Medical Center with Surgical Unit (CMA) for a 15 km round-trip sports walk aimed at promoting health and enhancing social cohesion on the Pouytenga-Sapaaga axis.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the initiative began about four years ago, inspired by a walking club in Ouagadougou. The focal point of the sports walk, Soum Evrade Birba, explained that they decided to establish their own weekly gathering in Pouytenga after following the Ouagadougou club's activities on social media and making contact.

The walk starts from the Pouytenga Medical Center, proceeds towards Sapaaga, and then returns to the starting point. Participants also engage in stretching exercises to aid recovery after the walk. This sporting event is open to anyone interested in participating, and it also aims to create a space for community interaction, fostering connections among people of different ages and faiths.

Soum Evrade Birba noted the diverse participation, including women, children as young as 14, and individuals from various religious backgrounds. The activity not only focuses on physical health but also on building social bonds. Flora Sanou, a first-time participant, shared that the activity motivated her to engage in physical exercise for health benefits, and she was pleased with the experience.

The Pouytenga walk is part of a broader trend in Burkina Faso, with similar activities taking place in cities such as Ouagadougou, Kaya, Dori, Tenkodogo, Koudougou, Fada, and Manga.
