Gaoua:A sanitation operation aimed at reducing larval breeding sites was organized by the Regional Health Directorate in collaboration with the Gaoua Health District. The initiative took place on Saturday, October 3, 2026, in sector no. 1 of Gaoua as part of the National Vector Control Days (JNLAV).
According to Burkina Information Agency, the operation focused on removing piles of garbage along the Gaoua-Kampti axis, targeting areas likely to foster the growth of disease-carrying mosquitoes.
Dr. Bakary Traoré, the regional health director, stated that the goal of the activity is to diminish larval breeding grounds and the proliferation of mosquitoes, which are primarily responsible for malaria and dengue. He urged residents to actively participate in sanitation efforts, both collectively and individually, to aid in the elimination of malaria by 2030.
Siaka Barro, the governor of the Djôrô region, encouraged the community to dispose of waste in designated areas and avoid leaving it by the roadsides. He announced that sanctions would be imposed on those caught illegally dumping garbage, with offenders required to clean up the areas. Barro emphasized that proper sanitation is crucial in the fight against malaria and in maintaining public health.
