CNLF Seizes Over 55 Million FCFA in Illicit Goods in Burkina Faso

Ouagadougou:The National Coordination for the Fight Against Fraud (CNLF) conducted a series of successful operations, resulting in the seizure of illicit goods valued at over 55 million FCFA. These raids, carried out on September 30 and October 1, 2026, were announced during a press briefing held in Ouagadougou.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the operations led to the confiscation of cyanide, contraband cigarettes, diverted subsidized diesel, and counterfeit lubricating oil. The coordinator of the CNLF, Dr. Mohamadi Compaor, described these actions as a significant blow to the fraud and smuggling networks in the region.

One of the notable seizures occurred on October 1, when a search of a truck on the Ouagadougou-Koupla road revealed hidden cargo. This included 50 bags of cyanide and 15 packages of contraband cigarettes, with a combined value of 10,950,000 CFA francs.

The day before, on September 30, 2026, in Loumbila, the CNLF intercepted a network involved in diverting subsidized fuel. A tanker truck was caught delivering 10,000 liters of diesel fuel to an industrial unit, a practice prohibited for such companies. The investigation uncovered a total illegal delivery of 59,000 liters of state-subsidized diesel, valued at 31,683,000 CFA francs.

Additionally, on October 1, a tip from a citizen led to the interception of a vehicle in the Patte d'Oie district of Ouagadougou. This operation seized 267 cartons of counterfeit and smuggled lubricating oil, valued at 12,600,000 CFA francs.

Dr. Compaor praised the public's cooperation, which was essential to the operations' success, and reaffirmed the CNLF's commitment to combating fraud and protecting the national economy and public welfare.
