Accra:BAL Agents from the Water and Forestry Department of the Deux-Bal Management Unit recently carried out a mission to combat illegal gold mining in the Deux-Bal classified forest. The operation, conducted from October 6 to 7, 2026, resulted in the interception of several tricycles used for transporting equipment and the seizure of bags of ore within the forest.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Ibrahim Guiro, the acting director of the Deux Bal classified forest management unit, reported the seizure of 25 tricycles, 4 two-wheeled motorcycles, and 220 bags of ore. Additionally, approximately 200 gold miners were sensitized during the operation.
The operation faced challenging weather, as agents persevered through a severe storm on the night of October 6-7. Despite these conditions, the agents remained committed to protecting natural resources and enforcing regulations, as emphasized by Comrade Guiro.
Beyond such operations, the agents of the Deux-Bal Management Unit continue their daily mission to protect the forest area against threats such as illegal grazing, clandestine gold mining, and poaching. Their efforts have been praised by the National Office for the Protection of Protected Areas (OFINAP), which commended their commitment and courage.
OFINAP also expressed gratitude to decentralized public structures and local authorities for their support and reminded local communities that forest and wildlife preservation is a collective responsibility. The organization urges communities to adhere to regulations and contribute to safeguarding Burkina Faso's natural heritage, emphasizing that protecting forests today is essential for preserving both heritage and future.
