Bobo-Dioulasso:The Guiriko Regional Health Directorate, in collaboration with its partners, conducted an advocacy meeting with community leaders to ensure the success of an upcoming mass treatment campaign against schistosomiasis. This campaign is scheduled to take place from October 26 to 31, 2026, across the health districts of Do, Hounde, Karangasso-Vigue, and Orodara.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Secretary General of the Guiriko region, Souleymane Nakanabo, emphasized the health and social challenges posed by schistosomiasis. He highlighted the potential future consequences of the infection on reproductive capacity if not treated promptly.

Nakanabo underscored the importance of managing the disease effectively, noting its significant social impact and classification as a public health problem. He called for collective efforts to combat the disease and stressed the need for rapid intervention due to the resurgence of cases.

The campaign, initiated by national authorities, aims to mobilize the community and disseminate accurate information. The authorities hope to reach a large number of people through the participation of community leaders, ensuring the campaign's success and achieving the desired health outcomes.
