Sandbondtenga:The Nakombogo public primary school, located in the commune of Barsalogho, has successfully harvested approximately 400 kg of cowpeas from its nearly two-hectare school field. This production is intended to strengthen the school's canteen.
According to Burkina Information Agency, students, teachers, parents, local residents, and members of the school council gathered early in the morning to participate in this first harvest. Equipped with containers and bags, they worked together to collect the cowpeas grown on the school field.
The school's director, Amidou Sawadogo, expressed joy and satisfaction, highlighting the harvest as the result of a collective effort from the educational community. He noted that the production is estimated to be around four 100 kg bags of cowpeas, which will enhance the school canteen and improve children's nutrition and school attendance.
Beyond its contribution to the canteen, the school field serves as a practical learning environment for students. School Council member Tene Zabre commended the initiative, emphasizing the value of students learning to produce alongside traditional education.
Given the successful outcome, the educational community plans to expand the field area and diversify the crops in the next agricultural season. The head of the school noted that this effort is part of the Presidential Initiative for quality education, aiming to promote food self-sufficiency in schools and contribute to the empowerment of school canteens.
