Guiriko:Faced with an increase in dengue cases, the Guiriko region has initiated spraying operations and awareness activities to curb the spread of the disease.
According to Burkina Information Agency, a statement from the governor's office on October 22, 2026, outlined the response measures being taken. These include treating patients in health facilities, conducting indoor residual spraying in the homes of infected individuals and neighbors, and performing space spraying in public areas, as explained by Regional Governor Mariama Konate Gnanou.
The governor is urging residents to cooperate with spraying operations to reduce the mosquito population responsible for transmitting dengue fever and malaria. She emphasizes the importance of eliminating stagnant water in and around homes, particularly in places like used tires and boxes that can become breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Regularly cleaning living areas is also recommended.
To protect against mosquito bites, Governor Gnanou advises using long-lasting insecticide-treated mosquito nets, wearing protective clothing, and applying insect repellent. In case of fever or other symptoms suggestive of dengue, she urges individuals to seek medical attention at the nearest health center and avoid self-medication to prevent delays in treatment and worsening of the condition.
