Ouagadougou: The Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs, Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré announced yesterday Thursday, during the ordinary session of the Council of Ministers that Burkina Faso will participate in the international conference on nuclear security.'The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabè Abroad made a communication to the Council relating to the participation of Burkina Faso in the International Conference on Nuclear Security (ICONS), scheduled for May 20 to 24, 2024 in Vienna, Austria,' reports the public newspaper Sidwaya.According to the words of the Director of the Nuclear Security Division of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Elena Buglov, published on the IAEA website, ICONS 2024 aims to offer national authorities, regional networks, international organizations and businesses a place to exchange on what has already been done, but especially on what will be done in the future.'This conference will bring together ministers, senior officials, staff fro m agencies that develop and manage nuclear security policies, and technical and legal experts working in all areas of nuclear security,' he said. she added.ICONS 2024 will include two parts, namely a ministerial debate which will lead to the adoption of a ministerial declaration from May 20 to 21, 2024 and a scientific and technical program from May 22-24, 2024.The fourth of its kind, this international ministerial-level conference on nuclear security will build on previous international conferences on nuclear security held in 2013, 2016 and 2020.Source: Burkina Information Agency
