Burkina: The storage capacity of Lake Bam increased by more than 7 million m3 (Minister Baro)

The Minister of the Environment, Water and Sanitation (MEEA) Roger Baro assured on Monday, May 13 in Kongoussi, that the threshold of Lake Bam has been raised by 25 cm, all something which will increase the storage capacity of 7 million m3 of water and improve the level of storage.Minister Baro spoke Monday morning in Kongoussi on the sidelines of a visit to the achievements of the implementation of the Lake Bam restoration, protection and development project, phase I.'It is an integrative project which had Lake Bam as its anchor point. We made achievements which consisted of raising the threshold of the lake by 25 cm. This will make it possible on the one hand to improve the storage capacity of more than 7 million m3 of water, to develop areas for exploitation and on the other hand, to improve the level of storage of the lake. » he indicated.The minister and his delegation visited the 196 m long crossing structure, the water pumping station and related infrastructure, the floating cages, the semi-Calif ornian downstream perimeter and the revegetation of the easement strip.At the end of the visit, fishing equipment consisting of refrigerators, coolers, fish boxes, fishing nets and many others worth more than 24 million FCFA, was handed over to the umbrella organization of Bam fishermen.For coordinator Harouna Nana, the Lake Bam restoration, protection and development project, phase I, has a cost of 15 billion FCFA.10 billion were financed by the West African Development Bank and the 5 billion by the Burkinabè State and the direct beneficiaries.As a reminder, the first phase of the project began in June 2017 and will end in July 2025.Ultimately, it will help restore the lake and improve the standard of living of the Bam populations.Source: Burkina Information Agency
