L©raba: An association offers food kits to 62 orphans and vulnerable children: The Association Jeunesse Espoir de la L©raba (AJEL) provided food kits to 62 orphans and vulnerable children in Sindou on Saturday, January 11, 2025. The event was overseen by Mahamadi Congo, the High Commissioner of the province of L©raba.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the distribution benefited 33 orphans and 29 internally displaced children. Each child received a food kit containing 1 box of spaghetti, 1 bag of soumbala, 1 liter of oil, and 1 kg of fresh fish. The event also featured a community meal shared among the beneficiary children and attending authorities.
The initiative followed a call for applications from the Permanent Secretariat of the National Council for the Fight against AIDS and STIs (SPCNLS), through which AJEL was selected to provide food support under the theme "A community meal for OVC, necessities of the structure."
Sint©r© Sanou, president of AJEL, expressed the objective of the action as a means to demonstrate to the orphans and vulnerable children that they are not alone and that there are people who care about them. He urged the families and guardians of these children to remain hopeful and not be discouraged by their circumstances.
Mr. Sanou also encouraged the children to stay strong, assuring them that further support from community structures, organizations, and authorities is possible. He emphasized AJEL's ambition to mobilize resources locally through advocacy, rather than relying solely on state funding.
Mahamadi Congo, the high commissioner, expressed his satisfaction with the initiative and called on partners to support AJEL's efforts. He also urged parents and guardians to prioritize the education of the children.
AJEL, established in 2001, engages in various domains including disease prevention, public and environmental hygiene, education, literacy, and capacity building for good governance and human rights.
