Tenkodogo: The Governor of the Center-East region, Colonel Aboudou Karim Lamizana, officially inaugurated the retail sale of SN-SOSUCO sugar at the administrative building of Tenkodogo. This initiative will, for now, be limited to Tenkodogo, the capital of the region.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this move follows the directives of Faso's President, Captain Ibrahim Traor©, to stockpile sugar in various regional capitals. The launch signifies a critical step in promoting locally made sugar, aligning with the President's vision for a self-reliant and resilient economy.
The initiative aims to make sugar more accessible, strengthening the sugar industry as a symbol of national sovereignty and development. Governor Lamizana emphasized that the campaign is timed to coincide with periods of fasting and Lent, ensuring consumers have easier access to this essential product.
He stated that sugar will be sold at 825 francs per kilogram for lump sugar and 675 francs per kilogram for powdered sugar. The Governor expressed gratitude to the President for this initiative, noting that the significant quantities received will provide much-needed relief to the population. He also urged consumers to prevent the sugar from entering the parallel market.
Pierre Claver Kima, president of the Consumers League in Boulgou province, attended to ensure the operation's smooth execution and consumer protection.
Rassa Par©, the first customer, shared her experience: "I purchased 5 kilos of sugar cubes at 825 F per kilo and 5 kilos of caster sugar at 675 F per kilo, using my national identity card. I commend this initiative and hope similar efforts are made for other staples like rice and oil."
