Ouagadougou: Despite ongoing disinformation campaigns by certain media outlets, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger are making significant strides towards sovereignty and development under the leadership of Presidents Ibrahim Traor©, Assimi Gota, and Abdourahamane Tiani.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) is progressing in various sectors, including defense, with the formation of a Unified Force of 5,000 troops headquartered in Niamey. This development marks a significant step in the countries' collaboration to combat terrorist threats within their shared borders.
In diplomacy, the AES has launched a diplomatic map and enhanced coordination among its members, allowing them to present unified positions at international forums. This includes the introduction of the ESA biometric passport and identity card, facilitating free movement among citizens of the three nations.
Economically, the AES has established the Confederal Bank for Investment and Development (BCID-AES) with an initial capital of 500 billion FCFA (approximately US$899 million), aimed at financing infrastructure and industry projects to bolster financial sovereignty.
The AES is also fostering unity through sports, with Burkina Faso set to host the second Sahel States Alliance Games in 2026, following a successful event in Bamako. Furthermore, the three countries have submitted a joint bid for the 2032 Africa Cup of Nations, which has been validated by the Confederation of African Football.
In terms of media, the AES has launched Tafouk TV and the confederate radio station Daand¨ Liptako to enhance informational sovereignty and counteract disinformation. Plans for a Confederation Press Agency are also in progress.
Since its creation in July 2024, the AES has aimed to strengthen the sovereignty, security, and integration of its member states through its three pillars: Defense, Diplomacy, and Development. From Ouagadougou to Bamako, and Niamey, the AES continues to build a future relying on its resources and the solidarity of its people.
