Ouagadougou: The President of the People’s Legislative Assembly of Burkina Faso, Dr. Ousmane Bougouma, who also presided over the inaugural session of the 1st meeting of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES) parliaments, officially installed 45 confederal deputies on Monday in Niamey. These deputies, 15 from each of the member countries-Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger-convened to deliberate on matters pertinent to the Confederation.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the confederal deputies hold the title of “Confederal Deputy” and gather in confederal sessions to issue opinions and make determinations on issues related to the AES. This initial session, which runs from August 24 to 29, 2026, in Niamey, focuses on establishing the groundwork for enhanced parliamentary cooperation among the three member states of the AES Confederation.

The opening ceremony of the session was marked by the presence of delegations from the sister parliaments of Chad and Togo. The proceedings of the first session continued with the commencement of the AES confederation’s parliamentary session, overseen by Niger’s Prime Minister, Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine, who represented the President of the Republic, General Abdourahamane Tiani.
