AFEMIB wants to support 500 women and young people from 10 Burkinabe municipalities in the creation of AGRs

The Association of Women in the Mining Sector of Burkina Faso (AFEMIB) presented, on Friday May 24, 2024 in Poura, the diagnostic study of the project to strengthen the capacities of 500 women and young people from mining sites on income-generating activities (AGRs) in ten municipalities.According to AFEMIB Secretary General Traoré Binta, the diagnostic study made it possible to identify potential beneficiaries and identify the economic potential of the municipalities concerned.This with the aim of specifying the types of IGA linked to the economic potential of the municipality, indicated Ms. Traoré.The main AGRs selected, according to the study, are rainfed and market gardening, poultry and small ruminant breeding, gold extraction and washing.For her, the field survey was carried out by the What You Need firm with the financial support of the Project to Support the Strengthening of Land and Mines Management (PARGFM).Listened, the general secretary, her association aims to promote the financial emp owerment of women and young people in municipalities impacted by mining activities.The women and young beneficiaries of the project showed a lot of interest during the study restitution workshop, due to the economic opportunities offered to them as part of these activities, maintained Ms. Traoré.The 2nd vice-president of the special delegation of the like of Poura Silvain Bayé declared that the authorities place great hope in the project for the support of women.He also invited the beneficiaries to have more motivation and solidarity in carrying out their income-generating activities.In the opinion of PARGFM representative, Émile Nikièma, beneficiaries must take up the challenge of forming a cooperative to benefit from the support.At this level, local authorities must organize them and support them in establishing the necessary documents, said Mr. Nikiéma.The project involves the localities of Bagassi, Bouda, Boudry, Boussé, Korsimoro, Mogtédo, Poura, Réo, Sabcé and Zabré.In the province of Balé , the commune of Bagassi and Poura are the two beneficiaries.Source: Burkina Information Agency
