Ouagadougou: The "Balkuy A" public primary school concluded its 2025-2026 academic year with a remarkable 98.63% pass rate in the Certificate of Primary Education (CEP), a milestone celebrated during a year-end ceremony. This event highlighted student achievements, partner recognition, and educational innovations introduced throughout the year.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the school's director, Zemani Sedogo Abzeta, expressed satisfaction with the pass rate, noting that 72 out of 73 candidates succeeded, marking the best performance in fifteen years. She also reported a 91% progression rate to intermediate grades. During the ceremony, the top three students from each class, along with the best student with a disability and the best internally displaced student, received awards, including bicycles and school supplies.
Ms. Sedogo acknowledged the support of various partners, such as the National Network of Associations Working in the Health Sector, which provided half a ton of rice for orphans, and the General Directorate of Customs, which contributed study books worth 500,000 FCFA for 100 students. She urged parents to maintain the awarded bicycles to aid future sixth-grade students' commutes.
Reflecting on the year's theme, "Educating in the spirit of the progressive and popular revolution: contribution of actors in the world of education," the director emphasized innovations like school gardening, soap making, fruit tree nurseries, and clean-up days. These activities aim to instill responsibility, discipline, and initiative in students, promoting development-oriented education.
The school also organized an educational trip to the Thomas Sankara Memorial, where students contributed 150,000 FCFA, equivalent to 600 bricks, to the "My Brick for Sankara" initiative supporting the memorial's development. These efforts aim to foster stronger ties between the school, families, and the community while nurturing autonomous and creative citizens dedicated to Burkina Faso's prosperity.
Dramane Kara, Head of the 58th Basic Education District of Ouaga XI, attended the ceremony and praised the school's educational team for its achievements. "We came, on behalf of our hierarchy, to support this school for its remarkable results," he stated, highlighting the role of partner support in rewarding top students.
Mr. Kara called on education stakeholders to sustain their efforts, emphasizing the communal ownership of the school and encouraging continued commitment to enhancing education quality in line with the Presidential Initiative.
