The Society of Gynecologists and Obstetricians of Burkina (SOGOB) organized on Friday, as part of the celebration of the International Day of Safe Termination of Pregnancy, according to the law (ISG / SL), an immersion meeting with media men to promote the right to women's reproductive health."This morning, we held an immersion meeting at the Bodogo University Hospital (CHU-B) with journalists on the content of the law on safe termination of pregnancy, the said law to improve women's sexual and reproductive health," said the president of the Society of Gynecologists and Obstetricians of Burkina (SOGOB), Pr Charlemagne Ouédraogo .According to him, this activity is part of the international celebration dedicated to Safe Termination of Pregnancy according to the Law (ISG/SL), because he explains that in Burkina Faso, many men and women in the media are unaware of this law or do not know how it is applied on the ground. Pr Ouédraogo, who spoke on Friday in Ouagadougou, at the premises of the CHU-B where he works as a gynecologist, maintained that the initiative of his structure aims to promote the right to reproductive health of women in the country.The president of SOGOB also insisted that in Burkina Faso, the ISG/SL is supervised by a medical team to provide quality services to women.According to him, a woman must meet three conditions to be able to benefit from an ISG/SL in Burkina Faso. Pr Charlemagne Ouédraogo recalled that it is when it is a case of incest or rape, malformation of the fetus and the case when the health of the mother is in danger.Mr. Ouédraogo also pointed out that voluntary termination of pregnancy is condemnable and punishable under the law in force in Burkina."We wanted to visit a hospital that deals with pregnancy complications and that practices ISG/SL to show the patient care circuit, from the front door to the internal consultation, through the ultrasound room, family planning and the intrauterine manual inspiration room, without the hospital pharmacy," he said.One of the patients met at CHU-B said she was satisfied with the care provided by the healthcare team at the health establishment.She said she came with a pregnancy problem since Monday, October 7, 2024 and her health situation has improved significantly.She also thanked the health workers who were by her side to help her recover her health.Source: Burkina Information Agency
