Burkina Faso Council of Ministers Approves Strategic Policies and Appointments

Ouagadougou: The Council of Ministers in Burkina Faso convened for its regular session under the leadership of His Excellency Captain Ibrahim Traore, President of Faso, to deliberate on key national issues. The meeting, held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:09 p.m., encompassed various agenda items, including policy adoptions, appointments, and international missions.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal, and Fisheries Resources reported the urgent declaration of public utility regarding the real estate assets of the Association for the Development of the Province of Nayala (ADPNA). This decision follows the dissolution of ADPNA and subsequent asset transfer to the Catholic Organization for Development and Solidarity (OCADES-NAYALA), which had sparked a crisis among former ADPNA members. The government aims to safeguard social cohesion and align with national food sovereignty goals by utilizing 450 hectares of arable land for agropastoral initiatives.

Further, the Ministry of Economy and Finance introduced a decree to implement royalties and taxes in the public communications sector, adapting to technological advancements like web radios and IPTV. This aligns with Organic Laws from 2023 and 2015, structuring the Higher Council for Communication's financial framework and integrating new media players.

In foreign affairs, the Council approved the appointment of Mr. Philippe Bronchain as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the European Union to Burkina Faso. The Ministry of Civil Service announced an exceptional recruitment plan for 2025, targeting 1,367 agents to support government development dynamics.

The Ministry of Urban Planning and Housing proposed a decree outlining conditions for accessing social housing, emphasizing income eligibility, prohibitions on subletting, and a digital monitoring platform. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Territorial Administration provided updates on rainfall data and forecasts, noting varying levels across regions.

The session also covered international cooperation, as the Minister of Economy and Finance discussed the Confederation of Sahel States' meeting on developing the Confederal Bank for Investment and Development. The Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted the commemoration of World Refugee Day in Bobo-Dioulasso, advocating for enhanced support for refugees.

The Council's agenda included reports on investment and educational monitoring, notably the high success rate of Burkina Faso candidates at the African and Malagasy Council for Higher Education session. Lastly, numerous appointments across various ministries were confirmed, covering roles in foreign affairs, economy, security, and energy sectors.
