Ouagadougou: Students at the Bouli de Kamboinsin CEG (General Education College) are being educated about the harmful effects of drugs. The General Education College (CEG) of Bouli de Kamboinsin, in the 9th district of Ouagadougou, in collaboration with the Anti-Drug Unit, organized on Friday an awareness day aimed at educating students about the harmful effects of drugs, a phenomenon that is growing in schools.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the future builders of the Burkinabe nation are increasingly exposed to the scourge of drugs in schools. It is in this context that the Bouli de Kamboinsin CEG initiated this awareness day for its students this Friday. These informal exchanges with the agents of the Anti-Drug Unit, held around the flagpole of the establishment, allowed the students to better understand the dangers of drug use and its consequences on their future.
For an hour, police captain Jules Nouma and police lieutenant Toussain Ouali, under a blazing sun, focused, among other things, on the categories of drugs, their origins, and their harmful effects on Burkinabe youth. Taking the opportunity, the two police officers offered advice to the students, urging them to turn away from drugs in order to fully flourish in society.
According to the director of the CEG of Bouli, Boureima Niampa, the consumption of drugs and narcotics in schools constitutes one of the main Achilles' heels of current education in Burkina Faso. Mr. Niampa, who took over the reins of the institution in March 2025, stressed that every actor in the education system must feel called upon in this fight against drug use. "We can't do anything without healthy students," he said.
The administrator, who is no stranger to raising awareness, stated that he is working to help learners move further away from the phenomenon of drugs. Boureima Niampa welcomed the strong mobilization of students and praised their receptiveness to the messages conveyed by the Anti-Drug Unit. He also thanked the head of the Ouaga II secondary, vocational, and technical education district, Inspector Karim Ouanre, the regional director, and the entire hierarchy of the ministry in charge of Secondary Education.
'We don't have a large hall to accommodate our 700 students, but they all gathered around the pole for the awareness session. This meeting was highly anticipated in our CEG. The discussions were beneficial for our students, and we are very satisfied with that,' he added.
The senior education advisor of the CEG of Bouli, Christophe Wandaogo, specified that the awareness initiative came from the head of the establishment, Mr. Niampa. "When he arrived this year, I spoke to him about children exposed to the phenomenon of drugs. He immediately contacted the Anti-Drug Unit to organize this session," he explained. According to Mr. Wandaogo, a case of consumption had been detected within the establishment, which reinforced the need to raise awareness among all students about the dangers and disadvantages of drugs.
Student Magloire Germaine Ouedraogo, in 3rd grade, welcomed this initiative which, according to her, helps them to protect themselves from drugs in order to pursue their studies in good conditions. Assetou Gueguema, also a 3rd grade student, expressed similar satisfaction and thanked the supervisors for this awareness-raising activity. "We thank our supervisors for organizing these discussions about drugs for us," she said.
It should be noted that the CEG of Bouli de Kamboinsin, located in the 9th district of Ouagadougou, has more than 700 students, from 6th to 3rd grade.
