Ouagadougou: The Combatant Forces neutralized approximately sixty terrorists on January 16, 2026, between Koogo and Men¨, in the Koulpelogo province, AIB learned on Saturday. Among the assailants killed was Karim Torodo, alias Abdoul Bachirou (35 years old), the emir of the Nakambe terrorists, known for his bloody history.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the head of terrorist leader Karim Torodo, alias Abdoul Bachirou, had a bounty of 175 million FCFA placed on it in June 2023, proof of the level of cruelty of the criminal and the will of the authorities to eliminate him at all costs. The assassin thought he could indefinitely evade the vigilance of the Combat Forces until January 16, 2026, in the province of Koulpelogo.
That day, when the sun was at its zenith, the forces ambushed terrorists affiliated with the so-called Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (GSIM) between Koogo and Men¨. According to security sources, the clash was exceptionally violent, but the soldiers rose to the challenge brilliantly.
In total, 57 criminals were killed during the confrontation, including several leaders, among them Karim Torodo, alias Abdoul Bachirou, or Sekou Amadou. Originally from Kankanmogre (Boulgou province), the 35-year-old terrorist had been involved in the ranks of criminals since 2019. He trained in the Pama area before perfecting his training in other countries.
According to our sources, the terrorist leader was involved in attacks against the fighting forces and civilians, the forced displacement of populations, as well as the sabotage of infrastructure (electricity and telephone pylons) and the destruction of crops. His area of operation extended from the Nakambe, Gulmu, Sirba, Tapoa, and Soum regions to some neighboring countries.
The man distinguished himself particularly in the communes of Tenkodogo, Bittou and Bane, in the province of Boulgou, as well as in Lalgaye, Yargatenga, Ouargaye, Sangha and Dourtenga, in the province of Koulpelogo. It was in view of this path that Karim Torodo, alias Abdoul Bachirou, also known as Sekou Amadou, had been promoted emir of Nakambe by the hierarchy of the GSIM.
The elimination of this terrorist thus constitutes a significant achievement for the Fighting Forces, a severe blow to the attackers and a relief for the populations. This comes after the capture, on August 15, 2025, of another important figure, Ousmane Dicko, alias "Abdoulaye de Kotandi". For military officials, these successes mark a key step in disorganizing the terrorists in the eastern region, confirming the progress of retaking the territory as a priority for the Burkinabe authorities.
