Burkina/Fight against fraud: More than 1,000 non-cleared vehicles seized

Ouagadougou: The National Coordination for the Fight against Fraud (CNLF), revealed Tuesday to the media that more than 1,000 vehicles, subject to false customs declarations, were identified and seized by its teams on the ground. With the collaboration of the population, the investigations of the National Anti-Fraud Coordination made it possible to intercept more than 1,000 vehicles regularly registered by the transport services but not subject to regular customs clearance.According to the national anti-fraud coordinator, Yves Kafando, the delinquents' modus operandi consists of infographic manipulations to modify declarations of salt, fertilizers, edible oil, herbicides, various goods, etc..'This manipulation, he continued, aims to match the characteristics of the vehicles in their possession on the declarations, in order to make it appear that it is a regular customs clearance operation.'With this new falsified document, they manage to grant themselves a registration which is certainly legal, since i t is issued by the Ministry of Transport, but unfortunately these vehicles have not been subject to customs clearance,' indicated Yves Kafando.According to Mr. Kafando, this practice is clearly due to a lack of synergy of actions between public administrations even though they are complementary in the processing of files for imported vehicles.'Strong recommendations will be made to the competent authority which would decide on the new course of action to take to optimize recoveries,' reassured the coordinator. To regain possession of their vehicles, owners must clear customs, in addition to the fines that will be applied to them.Yves Kafando also pointed out that this illegal practice by delinquents caused the Burkinabe state to lose more than a billion CFA francs.Source: Burkina Information Agency
