Burkina: The government grants a subsidy of more than 10 billion to producers for the purchase of inputs

The government granted Thursday a subsidy of 10,979,000,000 CFA francs to producers to facilitate access to inputs for the 2024-2025 cotton campaign in order to achieve the objectives set for the said campaign.

The government ‘authorized a subsidy of 10,979,000,000 CFA francs’ to producers ‘to facilitate access to inputs with a view to achieving the objectives set’ for the smooth running of the 2024-2025 cotton campaign, indicates the report of the council of ministers this Wednesday.

According to the same report, forecasts for the next 2024/2025 cotton campaign, for conventional seed cotton, the planting targets are estimated at 700,000 hectares of surface area, with an expected production of 595,000 tonnes of seed cotton.

For organic cotton, the planting targets are estimated at 6,500 hectares, with a forecast production of 3,250 tonnes of organic seed cotton.

National production of seed cotton for the 2023/2024 cotton campaign, including conventional cotton and organic cotton, stands at 383,144 tonnes
compared to 405,739 tonnes for the previous campaign, a drop of around 6%, adds said report.
