The occupation of roadside areas for less than two meters on either side of the roadway, in particular businesses and parking lots, will be sanctioned from November 1, 2023, according to the government which wants to fight against one of the main causes of traffic accidents.

“Burkina Faso records numerous accidents each year causing thousands of deaths, injuries and significant material damage.
One of the main causes of these accidents is the uncontrolled occupation of roadside areas in both urban and rural areas for various activities (commercial, artisanal, industrial, etc.).
For some, these spaces have become garages for broken down vehicles.
Concerned about the protection of people and property, the Government invites the population in general, traders in towns and villages as well as transporters and road drivers in particular, to free up the right-of-way of at least two (02 ) meters on either side of the roadways.
From November 1, 2023, the strict deadline, any offender will be sanctioned in accordance with the regulations in force.
