Burkinabe Educators Gather for School System Reforms

Léo:The 2026 annual pedagogical conference for preschool and primary school teachers commenced this Wednesday in Léo and across all districts of Sissili province. The four-day event focuses on capacity building and reforming the Burkinabe school system.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the conference is presided over by Jacques Sosthène Dingara, Minister of Basic Education, Literacy and the Promotion of National Languages, represented by Kassoum Koalaga, President of the Special Delegation of Léo. The meeting convenes primary school stakeholders at the Léo-Kutian school and preschool participants at the CEEP of sector 1. Discussions center on themes such as developing and utilizing integration situations, and the decolonization and endogenization of curricula in history, geography, and civic and moral education.

Édouard Konditamdé, Head of the Basic Education District of Léo, lauded the teachers' dedication, which achieved a 91.78% success rate in the CEP, putting the CEB at the top of the province. Kassoum Koalaga delivered a message from the minister, paying tribute to fallen soldiers and teachers, and emphasized the role of education as a pillar of sovereignty, aiming to shape a "new citizen, upright and devoted to their homeland." He reiterated the municipality's commitment to enhancing school facilities and infrastructure.

Soungalo Traoré, Provincial Director of Preschool, Primary and Non-Formal Education of Sissili, highlighted that this conference aligns with the "revolutionary and sovereignist" vision of Head of State Captain Ibrahim Traoré, advocating for the development of endogenous and participatory solutions to educational challenges.

Bessana Bailou, a participant from CEEP of sector 1 in Léo, expressed gratitude for the choice of themes, noting that these courses in continuing education are timely for adjusting teaching practices to current needs.

The conference also commenced in other communes within the province, including Boura, Niabouri, Silly, To, Biéha, and Nébiélianayou. In Nébiélianayou, PDS Harouna Napon and CCEB Nongma Zongo opened the proceedings, which featured presentations by inspectors Kalibaho Nabié and Moussa Nébié.
