Accra: Burkinabe chef Djenebou Banao is continuing her challenge at the Maison du Peuple (People's House) to prepare 1,000 meals a day for 12 days, as part of the Guinness World Record for the longest individual cooking marathon. The challenge, which began on December 2 at 11 p.m., will end on December 12.
According to Burkina Information Agency, several difficulties are hindering the smooth running of the challenge, including power cuts, lack of financial resources, and weak support from the population. Despite these challenges, Chef Banao is determined to complete her culinary marathon, cooking alone with only 5 minutes of break time per hour, which can be accumulated up to 2 hours of rest per day.
The prepared meals are intended for orphans, internally displaced persons, Faso Mebo workers, as well as visitors who come to support her, who also benefit from free meals. On site, visitors expressed their admiration for the chef's efforts. Fatim Zoungrana, a participant, spoke highly of the food and expressed her belief that Chef Banao will succeed in her endeavor.
For Hassan Sare, the event holds significant importance, though he regrets the lack of greater mobilization from the people of Burkina Faso. He suggests that strong popular support would provide the chef with the energy needed to persevere.
Despite the obstacles, Chef Banao remains focused, with each meal bringing her closer to potentially securing a place in the Guinness World Records, alongside elevating the name of Burkina Faso on the international stage.
