Koudougou: Chief Superintendent of Police NSayil© Berkomwin Pierre Som© officially assumed command of the Republican Security Companies (CRS) Group (GCRS) on Tuesday morning. The ceremony, held at the CRS camp, marked the transition of leadership from outgoing Police Commissioner Hassane Nitiema to Chief Commissioner Som©.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event was presided over by Chief Superintendent of Police Somnomya Ouedraogo, Director of Police Intervention Units. It was attended by administrative, military, and paramilitary authorities, along with close collaborators and guests who gathered to support both the incoming and outgoing officers.
In his farewell address, outgoing commander Police Commissioner Hassane Nitiema expressed gratitude to his superiors for their trust during his tenure. He highlighted the commitment and professionalism of his officers in achieving satisfactory results in a demanding security environment. Commissioner Nitiema encouraged his former colleagues to continue their support for the new commander.
Chief Superintendent Som©, upon taking the floor, conveyed his appreciation to the Ministry of Security and the police hierarchy for their trust. He emphasized his dedication to serving with loyalty, discipline, and selflessness, aligning with the values of the National Police. Chief Commissioner Som© acknowledged his predecessor's achievements and vowed to carry forward the work with humility and determination. He urged his officers to maintain rigor, discipline, and professionalism, especially in addressing the challenges of terrorism and public disorder.
Som© reminded his troops, "Courage is not the absence of fear, but the ability to overcome it," advocating for solidarity and high morale within the ranks. He also stressed the importance of coordinated actions with other defense and security forces, the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), administrative authorities, and the local population to effectively tackle security challenges.
With a distinguished career, Chief Superintendent Som© brings extensive experience in intervention units, having held command positions in Ouagadougou, Bobo-Dioulasso, Manga, and Tenkodogo. He holds specialized certifications in law enforcement, crisis management, and leadership, along with a master's degree in mediation, cultural conflict, and peace.
The handover of command occurs as the GCRS of Koudougou plays a strategic role in the national security system.
