Experts Gather to Discuss Human Rehabilitation Amid Security Crisis

Ouagadougou: A scientific meeting focusing on human rehabilitation within the context of a security crisis was chaired by Professor Fran§ois Sawadogo at the Ouaga 2000 Virtual University. The event, held on May 31, attracted specialists, university professors, field practitioners, and representatives of NGOs and ministries.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the primary aim of the meeting was to explore the significance of remediation and human rehabilitation in light of the ongoing security challenges faced by Burkina Faso. Professor Sawadogo emphasized that reconstruction extends beyond basic literacy, encompassing the development of socio-emotional skills. He pointed out that crises often result in psychological, cognitive, and educational vulnerabilities, affecting war victims and displaced populations who suffer trauma and a loss of abilities.

The discussions highlighted the urgency of establishing a comprehensive strategic framework involving various stakeholders. Professor Sawadogo warned of the dire consequences of inaction, noting that in countries with similar experiences, reconstruction efforts have lasted up to 30 years.

Bienvenu Taonssa, a journalist at RTB Television, praised the initiative, referring to the participants as "doctors of society." He underscored the media's role in spotlighting these efforts to ensure that the public can benefit from the proposed solutions.

Professor Par© Kabor© Afsata, an expert in educational sciences and psychology, stressed the importance of addressing psychological and cognitive issues, which hinder socio-economic development. She pointed out the impact of trauma on individuals' engagement in sectors such as agriculture and health.

The meeting concluded with a unanimous call for improved communication on the importance of these issues. The objective is to raise awareness among the population and decision-makers to incorporate these dimensions into reconstruction and development strategies. This gathering represents a significant step towards formulating strategies that support individuals affected by the crisis and pave the way for sustainable reconstruction.
