Ouagadougou: The Professional Football League (LFP), under the aegis of the Burkinabe Football Federation (FBF), is set to honor the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), and the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) during the 10th day of the Faso Foot Ligue 1. This national first division football championship will take place from November 22 to 24.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Armed Forces Sports Union (USFA) and the Customs Sports Association (AS DOUANES), teams representing the corps of arms, will face off on Sunday, November 24 at the Issoufou Joseph Conombo municipal stadium in Ouagadougou. The Minister of State, Minister of Defense and Veterans, who is the sports sponsor of this match, will be present to initiate the kick-off.
The LFP stated, “Through this day, the players in Burkinabe football will pay a vibrant tribute to the FDS and the VDP engaged in the theater of the reconquest of the territory as well as our valiant PDI.” The tr
ibute actions during these three days of the championship will include a minute of silence in memory of the fighting forces before the start of the matches, wearing white armbands by players and officials to symbolize hope for peace and security, carrying the national flag by each team as a symbol of national unity, the performance of the national anthem, and the raising of the colors, if possible.
The organizers of Faso Foot Ligue 1 have also planned for a photo session involving the two teams and officials with the national flag. Additionally, a kick-off of each match will be given by a member of the FDS, a VDP, or a PDI. Supporters are encouraged to wear jerseys in the national colors, and there will be a fundraiser in the stadiums for the benefit of the Patriotic Support Fund.
For the fundraising efforts, the Regional Leagues will establish an organization to facilitate contributions from clubs, other sports organizations, and individuals willing to contribute, in accordance with specified terms and con
ditions.
