Ganzourgou: The provincial directorate of preschool, primary, and non-formal education of Ganzourgou, in collaboration with its partners, organized the second edition of the Provincial Forum on Education, focusing on reducing school dropout rates. The forum, held on Thursday, March 13, 2025, aimed to lower the dropout rate from 5.19% in 2024 to 2% in 2025, under the theme: "The problem of school dropouts: Current situation, causes, solutions and perspectives."
According to Burkina Information Agency, the dropout rate in Ganzourgou province increased from 3.72% in 2023 to 5.19% in 2024, with significant increases in municipalities such as Salogo and Mogt©do. Provincial director Nobila C©lestine Zagr©/Zoungrana emphasized the need for collective action to ensure children's right to education, stating that the dropout phenomenon hinders efforts in access and quality education.
High Commissioner Aminata Sorgho/Gouba highlighted the importance of understanding dropout causes and finding solutions, with artisanal gold mining and household insecurity identified as major factors. Successful strategies from Boudry 1 and Zorgho CCEB districts were shared, and CREDO program manager Kiswendsida Innocent Gansaonr© presented findings on child labor in mining sites.
The forum participants proposed solutions such as raising awareness about child labor dangers, enhancing academic performance, and monitoring dropouts for reintegration. Divided into working groups, they developed action plans involving communities and authorities, adopting resolutions for effective implementation.
At the forum's conclusion, Sorgho/Gouba praised the initiative and urged continued collaboration to ensure quality education for all children in Ganzourgou province.
