Ouagadougou: The President of Guinea, General Mamadi Doumbouya, has ordered the dismissal of 173 soldiers from the Guinean Armed Forces for desertion, according to a decree read on Guinean national television on Monday, August 24, 2026, by the Minister Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic, General Amara Camara.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the decree is based on articles 24 and 25 of the general statute of the military, which govern disciplinary measures related to desertion. Among the military personnel involved is Commander Michel Lama, a former member of the Special Forces Group (GFS), a unit that played a central role in the overthrow of President Alpha Cond on September 5, 2021. He had been presented as one of the military personnel involved in the arrest and transfer of former President Alpha Cond after the coup.

The list also includes military personnel assigned to several army units, including the Autonomous Airborne Troops Battalion (BATA), infantry battalions, and territorial companies. Also mentioned are Captain Bakary Keta, from the Sigiri infantry battalion, Captain Abdoulkarim Sisoko, from the Ouend Kenman infantry company, Lieutenant Alse Nissila, from the Lola infantry company, and Sub-Lieutenant Abdoulaye Aminata Kamara, from the BATA.

Dismissal for desertion results in the withdrawal of the soldiers concerned from the ranks of the Guinean Armed Forces.
