Ouagadougou: The young people of the village of Zourma, in the commune of Zabr, organised a sanitation day on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the village’s Health and Social Promotion Centre (CSPS), in order to improve the care environment and contribute to the fight against larval breeding grounds. Armed with rakes, picks, hoes, and machetes, young people from Zourma and the surrounding villages joined forces to clean and sanitize the area around the primary healthcare center (CSPS).

According to Burkina Information Agency, this activity, initiated by the youth and carried out with the support of the Village Development Committee (CVD), is part of a broader community mobilization effort promoting cleanliness and public health. The delegate from the village of Zourma, Leguim Yabr, praised the young people’s commitment and congratulated the CSPS staff for their work in benefiting the community.

He encouraged the young people to continue their commitment within their families by becoming “ambassadors” for cleanliness, particularly through the destruction of mosquito breeding grounds and the sanitation of their homes. For Wahad Maran, the head nurse at the Zourma primary healthcare center, this cleanup day is an initiative to be encouraged, especially as it contributes to improving the health environment.

“We thank and congratulate all those involved in this excellent initiative,” he said, emphasizing that cleanliness and sanitation of administrative buildings and homes are strongly recommended by health authorities. Comrade Maran also stressed the need to make the destruction of larval habitats a permanent activity, calling for chain awareness within households and the community.

He finally thanked the village chief, religious leaders, and all community stakeholders for their involvement in sustaining this action, which has been carried out regularly since he took up his post at the Zourma CSPS.
