Ouagadougou: The 2026 regional reforestation campaign was launched on Saturday at the Nazi Boni University grove in Bobo-Dioulasso, with the planting of 500 seedlings over three hectares, under the theme "My institution, my grove".

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony, presided over by the comrade governor of the Guiriko region, Mariama Konat/Gnanou, saw the mobilization of administrative authorities, constituted bodies, and several actors involved in the restoration of the vegetation cover.

This regional campaign comes after the national launch of the National Reforestation Campaign 2026, held on June 27, 2026, in Ouagadougou, on the grove of the Thomas Sankara University, under the theme "One institution, one grove".

At the Nazi Boni University site, approximately twenty plant species will be used for this project. The grove will also benefit from a well equipped to facilitate the maintenance and watering of the plants.

For Governor Mariama Konat/Gnanou, the theme of this campaign reflects a collective responsibility for environmental preservation. "There should be no ambiguity in our ambition to re-green our environment. We must ensure a success rate of at least 75% of plants surviving after the first planting," she stated.

The governor congratulated and encouraged the partners working to restore the vegetation cover, while also commending the organization of the campaign by the Water and Forestry Department. "Comrade Regional Director of Water and Forestry, my congratulations on the successful organization of this campaign," she added.

The president of Nazi Boni University, Hassan Bismarck Nacro, indicated that the site will also serve as a teaching environment for students. "It will also be a learning space. Practical training for students will take place on this site," he explained.

The regional reforestation campaign aims to contribute to strengthening vegetation cover while making institutions direct actors in the protection and restoration of the environment.
