Guiriko: The regional directorate of the National Police of Guiriko hosted, on the morning of Wednesday, March 18, 2026, in Bobo-Dioulasso, the official launch ceremony of the "Siguignogo Police," which means "community police" in the national Dioula language.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this new component of the National Police aims to foster closer ties between law enforcement and the public, in a context marked by security challenges. Faced with the multifaceted nature of crime in major cities, police authorities intend to adapt their strategies. The establishment of the "Siguignogo Police" thus responds to the need for a more proactive security approach. This unit prioritizes a preventive, participatory, and community-based approach, promoting the co-creation of security between citizens and the defense and security forces.
For the regional director of the National Police in Guiriko, Divisional Commissioner Voubi Ziba, the issue is clear: "It is about going to the people, exchanging ideas with them so that security problems can be discussed together. Security is not the sole prerogative of the police; it is together that we will discuss security problems in order to find solutions," he explained.
Through this initiative, the National Police demonstrates its commitment to strengthening trust with local communities. The unit places particular emphasis on raising awareness, actively listening to citizens, and working closely with community leaders to more effectively anticipate and respond to threats.
Present at the ceremony, the governor of the Guiriko region, Mariama Konate/Gnanou, praised this security innovation. According to her, the "Siguignogo Police" initiative is an important tool for strengthening ties between the population and law enforcement. "This enhanced collaboration will undoubtedly contribute to improving security for everyone," she emphasized.
Initially comprised of 50 officers, this unit is expected to gradually expand. Local authorities have also called upon residents to actively participate by collaborating with this new structure and with all defense and security forces to better maintain security in the city of Sya.
