Djibo: The new High Commissioner has been increasing the number of meetings since taking office. The new High Commissioner of Soum province took office on January 10, 2025. Faced with the many challenges for a province that remained for 15 months without a permanent High Commissioner, Wend Nere Wilfried Tougma quickly got to work this Monday.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Wend Nere Wilfried Tougma instructed all the Defense and Security Forces, as well as all the directors and heads of service, to present themselves on Monday, January 13, 2025 for the raising of the colors in the premises of the High Commission of Djibo. After the various bodies and entities were put in place, at exactly 7:30 am, the entire audience sang the national anthem during the raising of the flag.

It was an emotional moment for everyone, as it had been more than two years since such a ceremony in the presence of a High Commissioner had taken place in Djibo. After the raising of the colours, Mr. Wend Nere Wilfried Tougma, High Commissioner of the province, took the opportunity to present his best wishes to all the bodies present. He also requested the support of all to succeed in his mission.

He recalled the vision of the country’s highest authorities and pledged to work towards achieving these goals. He congratulated the state agents who stood by the people and praised the resilience of the city’s residents. He stressed self-sacrifice, everyone’s patriotism, a job well done, and pledged to fight corruption in all its forms, in line with the Prime Minister’s dynamic.

Then, from the High Commission, the head of the province visited teachers and students of two schools in the city. The tour started at 8:00 am at Djibo School B and ended at RHAMA Primary School. At each stage, the teachers, surprised but grateful, welcomed the visit of the province’s top authority with gratitude.

They received encouragement and congratulations from the High Commissioner, who was accompanied by Mr. Losseni Woni, 2nd twin, Prefect and president of the special delegation of Djibo, his 1st vice-president, as well as the Provincial Director of Primary Education and the Head of the Djibo 1 base constituency. At 9:00 a.m., after the tour, the High Commissioner received the directors and heads of department for an initial meeting. Each manager presented the situation of his department, the difficulties encountered, the proposed solutions and the challenges to be met.

This was an opportunity for the first provincial authority to assess the situation and immediately get to work to address the emergencies. It should be recalled that the province of Soum remained for nearly 15 months without a High Commissioner, with the one from S©no acting as interim High Commissioner.

The appointment of a High Commissioner has given hope to the population and will allow State services to have an interlocutor capable of finding local solutions to the concerns of its citizens.
