Leo: The city of Leo woke up on Saturday, January 11, 2025, in shock after the murder of a young man in his thirties by his rival and neighbor.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the tragedy occurred following a disagreement over a woman between two neighbors who were friends and regularly drank together in local cabarets and liquor kiosks. The woman in question, a dolo seller, was being courted by both men. She had previously filed a complaint against the victim, alleging he had made death threats towards her. This led to a summons for a police hearing on Thursday, January 9, 2025, which the victim did not attend.

On the night of Friday, January 10, 2025, the two men were seen together at the woman's cabaret but parted ways around midnight. Fearing for her safety from the victim, the saleswoman chose to accompany the alleged murderer for protection. This decision did not sit well with her rival.

Armed with a machete, the victim went to the alleged murderer's house later that night, where a confrontation ensued. The alleged murderer managed to overpower the victim and tragically slit his throat with the machete.

After committing the act, the alleged murderer confided in a third party, expressing his readiness to face the legal consequences. The gendarmerie was alerted and promptly arrived at the scene to document the incident and arrest the alleged perpetrator.

The suspect was presented before the prosecutor of the High Court (TGI) of L©o on Monday, January 13, 2025. As he awaits trial, he remains in custody at the L©o remand center.
