Bobo-dioulasso: The Municipality of Bobo-Dioulasso launched on Monday, May 18, 2026, a special operation to capture and impound stray or stationary animals along the main roads of the city. This initiative is spearheaded by the General Directorate of the Municipal Police in collaboration with the services responsible for municipal resources. The objectives of this intervention include enforcing measures taken by municipal authorities to clean up urban spaces and enhance road safety.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the operation follows multiple warnings issued to livestock and meat industry participants regarding unauthorized landings and the presence of freely roaming animals in the city. Despite measures implemented after the closure of the former refrigerated slaughterhouse in January 2026 and the subsequent transfer of activities to Kiri Park in district 3, some irregular practices continue to occur.
Municipal authorities have stated that the animals seized during this operation will be kept in the pound and will only be released upon payment of the fees and penalties as stipulated by current regulations. Through this action, the municipality aims to maintain public order, improve the living conditions for residents, and remind involved parties of their civic responsibilities.
