Gourma: The Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture, Water, Animal and Fisheries Resources, Commander Isma«l Sombie, embarked on a visit to Goulmou, Sirba, and Tapoa to assess the progress of the 2026-2027 agro-sylvo-pastoral and fisheries campaign.

According to Burkina Information Agency, during his visit to Fada N'Gourma, the regional director of Agriculture, Animal Resources and Fisheries, Bachirou Mande, provided an update on the campaign's status. He noted that the first rains were observed in the second ten days of April, with sowing commencing in June in Kompienga, Diamongou, and Gobnangou, and later in July in Gourma, Gnagna, and Komondjari.

As of September 10, 2026, the regions had an average rainfall of 621.5 mm across 29 rainy days, slightly below the 632 mm recorded over 34 days in 2025. Despite this decrease, crops are primarily at the heading, flowering, and maturity stages. The campaign's condition is deemed good in Goulmou and Tapoa, whereas it is passable in Sirba, with the situation being closely monitored in light of evolving climatic conditions and crop status.

Commander Sombie expressed his appreciation to the participants involved in the campaign and emphasized the importance of achieving food sovereignty, a core component of President Captain Ibrahim Traore's vision for Burkina Faso. He reiterated the government's dedication to bolstering the agricultural, forestry, livestock, and fisheries sectors through substantial investments to enhance production and ensure the country's food self-sufficiency.
