Kaya Community Leaders Unite to Support Volunteer Defense Brigade

Kaya: An awareness-raising meeting was convened for community leaders in the commune of Kaya at the town hall's community hall.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the event, organized by the regional coordination of the Volunteer Brigade for the Defense of the Homeland (BVDP), aimed to fortify relations between the local population and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP).

The gathering included traditional leaders, religious community representatives, presidents of Village Development Committees (CVD), civil society organization representatives, and VDPs from the Kaya commune. Captain Baro Kalifa Abdoul Kader, the regional coordinator of the BVDP for the Centre-North, stated that this meeting was part of broader efforts to raise awareness about the VDP's role, mission, and importance in combating terrorism.

Central to the discussions was Law No. 028-2022/ALT, which established the VDPs. Participants focused on consolidating cooperation between the local populations and the VDPs to expedite the liberation of national territory. Under the guidance of Captain Baro and Youmanli Yonli from the Regional Directorate for Human Rights, attendees learned about the VDP's missions, volunteer status, rights, duties, and the discipline required.

Captain Baro praised the VDP for their accomplishments and urged them to continue their efforts with courage and determination. "The war is not over yet. We must remain focused and continue our work with greater commitment," he emphasized.

Ms. Kima/Minoungou Solange, the prefect and president of the special communal delegation of Kaya, highlighted the significance of good behavior and civic attitudes during wartime. She stressed the importance of adhering to security guidelines, supporting local initiatives, and mobilizing around the VDP's missions. She encouraged the population to engage collectively in the mission to liberate the country.

The subsequent discussions allowed participants to gain a deeper understanding of the commitment level of the VDPs and the challenges they face. Relevant proposals emerged to accelerate the recapture of territory. Captain Baro expressed satisfaction with the meeting, noting that participants asked pertinent questions and demonstrated an understanding of the issues. He voiced confidence that they would act as ambassadors in their communities, communicating the importance of supporting VDPs.

Finally, Captain Baro called on leaders and their communities to support the common mission of liberating the country, each in their own capacity.
