Ouagadougou: The Council of African Information and Technology Agencies (CAITA) adopted its 2024-2025 strategic plan on Thursday, May 30, 2024, on the sidelines of the 2nd edition of ‘GITEX Africa Morroco 2024’ which was held in the Cherifian kingdom, we learned from the organizers.
On the sidelines of the second edition of GITEX Africa Morocco 2024, one of the most important events for technological innovation on the African continent, the 3rd meeting of the African Council of Technology Agencies was held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024. of Information (CAITA) of the Smart Africa Alliance with the participation of 17 agencies.
CAITA, the fourth consultative body of Smart Africa, sits alongside the Council of ICT Ministers (CMICT), the African Council of Regulators (CAR) and the Private Sector Forum. Its main mission is to develop and submit recommendations to the Council of Ministers on the harmonized standards necessary for the implementation of Smart Africa initiatives.
These efforts are essential to ensure
a coherent and integrated approach to digital development across the continent.
The Kingdom of Morocco plays a central role within CAITA. In June 2023, the director general of the Digital Development Agency (ADD), Mohammed Drissi Melyani was unanimously elected president of CAITA for a two-year term.
This election demonstrates the international recognition of Morocco’s leadership in digital transformation and its commitment to promoting inter-African cooperation in the field of ICT.
Thus, and since its constitutive meeting and until now, the CAITA has undertaken several actions including in particular “the development of the internal regulations which are made up of the necessary provisions intended to define the rules and modalities for the proper functioning of the Council, the development of the activity plan which is structured around the main activities to be carried out in 2024, in partnership with the various stakeholders concerned, on a continental and international scale, with the aim of contribut
ing in the development of digital in Africa and to promote economic and social emergence.
‘And the development of the draft strategic plan 2024-2025 aimed at contributing to the establishment of a digitally connected Africa, using information technologies effectively and innovatively to stimulate socio-economic growth.’
This 3rd meeting of CAITA, chaired by Sidi Mohammed Drissi Melyani, and Mr. Lacina Koné, Director General of the smart Africa Alliance, was an ideal opportunity for member agencies to take stock of the progress made as well as the state of advancement of a certain number of projects carried out by the Smart Africa Alliance and whose consistency is aligned with the missions and actions of CAITA.
Also, this meeting subsequently allowed the definition of priorities for the coming year, and in particular the adoption of the strategic action plan aimed at helping to lay the cornerstones of a digitally connected Africa, using efficiently and innovative way information technologies to stimulate so
cio-economic growth.
Holding this meeting in parallel with GITEX Africa Morocco 2024 underlines the importance of this event for the African continent.
