National Police in Kourw©ogo Enforce Helmet Mandate by Seizing Vehicles

Bouss©:Kourw©ogo: Security forces launched a comprehensive operation to enforce mandatory helmet use in Kourw©ogo province, which has already led to the seizure of over one hundred two- and three-wheeled vehicles.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this operation began after new regulations mandating helmet use for all drivers of motorized two- or three-wheeled vehicles came into effect. The enforcement efforts were directed by the regional hierarchy of Oubri and involved multiple security units, including the Central Police Station, the Republican Security Company, and the Traffic and Road Safety Service of Bouss©.

Jean Rodrigue Compaor©, the provincial director in charge of the national police in Kourw©ogo, reported that 103 vehicles, including one tricycle, were seized from offenders. Compaor© emphasized that controls will continue intensively until October 6, 2026, as announced by the Ministry of Security in press release No. 2026-0033/MSECU/CAB.

The operation, called "Head Shield," marks the end of a period of administrative tolerance that began on August 17, 2026. During this time, violators were primarily informed of the rules rather than penalized. Moving forward, drivers without helmets face penalties, including a 3,000 FCFA fine and vehicle immobilization until a helmet is presented.

The authorities aim to enhance compliance with the highway code and reduce accident risks associated with not wearing helmets. Compaor© urged citizens and road users to cooperate fully to safeguard lives, particularly those of students, during the 2026-2027 school year. Road safety, he noted, is a collective responsibility demanding adherence to regulations and vigilance from all road users.
