Ouagadougou: Administrative authorities, technical services, partners, and the population of Nayala mobilized on Saturday in Toma to re-green their environment on the occasion of the launch of the 8th edition of the National Tree Day (JNA), placed under the theme: ‘My concession, my tree’. This edition aims to strengthen reforestation efforts and encourage every citizen to contribute to the restoration of the province’s vegetation cover.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the High Commissioner of the Nayala province, Honore Frederic Pare, kicked off the national operation “One hour to re-green Faso” by symbolically planting a tree. Around fifty plants of various species were planted on the site of the Provincial Directorate of the Environment. The province’s top official invited every resident to plant and maintain at least one tree in their living environment in order to contribute to the restoration of vegetation cover and the fight against the effects of climate change.

He noted that the degradation of forest resources remains a major concern and called for increased citizen engagement in reforestation and environmental protection. The High Commissioner also announced several planned actions in the province, including the creation of a grove of useful plants in Sapala, the strengthening of the provincial grove of medicinal plants, and the rehabilitation of sites degraded by gold mining.

The national reforestation campaign will continue in the province with the launch, on June 27, of the “One institution, one grove” initiative.
