Sissili: The Union of Forest Management Cooperatives 'N©maroyon' of the Silly-Zawara-Pouni forest development project (USCOOP-GF/NMY-SZP) held its second ordinary general assembly on Saturday, February 7, 2026, in Silly. This session, focused on the protection of more than 4,000 hectares of forest, was marked by a call for increased citizen vigilance.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting took place at Silly Town Hall and was chaired by Christophe N. Bonkoungou, the Prefect and President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of Silly. He was accompanied by Louis N©bi©, the Regional Director (DR) of Water and Forests for Nando. The assembly began with a moment of silence led by the PDS, honoring the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) who lost their lives defending the territory.
In his opening remarks, Christophe N. Bonkoungou highlighted that the objectives of the "N©maroyon" Union align with the nation's vision, stressing that the government prioritizes the protection and sustainable management of natural resources. He urged the simplified cooperative forest management societies (SCOOPS-GF) to actively participate in preserving forest heritage.
Louis N©bi©, the regional director, acknowledged the commendable efforts of the Union members, applauding their patriotism and encouraging continued dedication to ensure the forest's long-term preservation. The Union's president, Batian Ziba, noted that the organization comprises about fifty villages, enabling effective monitoring for the legal exploitation of resources. He emphasized the importance of managing forest resources responsibly and involving Water and Forestry agents when necessary.
Concluding the session, Batian Ziba urged colleagues to enhance their vigilance and exercise wisdom to achieve significant outcomes in 2026. The PDS closed the assembly on a positive note, encouraging USCOOP-GF members to remain strong defenders against environmental degradation in the Nando region.
