Oubri: Operation WIBGA 3 resulted in over 71,000 vehicles checked and 76 arrests.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the National Police conducted extensive checks on 66,335 people and 71,439 vehicles in the Oubri region between July 9 and August 31, 2026, as part of Operation "WIBGA 3." The operation also led to several seizures of weapons, narcotics, illicit goods, and fraudulent documents.
The mid-term report, released to the press on September 10, 2026, highlighted the scale of the operation, which involved 402 police officers. These officers carried out 339 patrols and community actions during the specified period, focusing on inspecting people and vehicles to ensure compliance with the law.
A detailed breakdown of the vehicles inspected includes 47,551 motorcycles, 4,356 tricycles, and 19,532 automobiles. As a result of these inspections, 265 vehicles were impounded, and fixed fines amounting to 3,477,500 CFA francs were issued.
On the judicial front, the operation led to the arrest of 76 road users, with 33 individuals taken into custody and 20 brought before a judge for further legal proceedings.
The police successfully seized a range of weapons, including two AK-47 rifles with two magazines and 48 rounds of ammunition, an automatic pistol with 13 rounds of ammunition, ten bladed weapons, and a bayonet knife. In addition, 250 kg of cyanide, seven 20-liter jerrycans of gasoline, 25 kg of Tramadol valued at 7,500,000 CFA francs, and 95 cartons of expired goods were confiscated. Authorities also intercepted five counterfeit driver's licenses and various administrative documents. A stolen motorcycle was recovered, and a Range Rover was seized during the operation.
The report noted that no major security incidents were recorded within the jurisdiction of the Oubri Regional Directorate of the National Police during this period. Operation "WIBGA 3," which was officially launched on July 8, 2026, by the Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, is still ongoing.
