Ouagadougou: No enthusiasm at the Tanghin livestock market on the eve of Eid El Fitr

Ouagadougou: The enthusiasm is not that of the good days at the Tanghin livestock market in Ouagadougou on the eve of Ramadan 2024, where sellers claim to have no customers, noted Tuesday the AIB.At the Tanghin livestock market, it is 9:45 a.m. this Tuesday. Sheep and oxen are available but customers are rare.Indeed, this main livestock market in Ouagadougou, which was teeming with people every eve of the holidays, is unrecognizable as it was so empty of people.'We are livestock sellers. There is no market,' says Alidou Traoré, looking towards his animals. For Mr. Traoré, this is due to the security crisis and 'it is no one's fault'.For him, last year's revenues were better: "At least last year I was able to sell a little unlike this year where nothing can be bought," he recalls.Mr. Traoré specified that the prices of rams range from 175,000 to 200,000 FCFA and those of sheep vary between 35,000 and 40,000 FCFA.Different place, same story. Coming from Dori, Ahmadou Diallo is having difficulty sel ling his rams.'We came from Dori to hope to sell our products but there is no market, even though I sell the ram for 50,000 or 100,000 and the oxen for 150,000 FCFA,' laments Ahmadou Diallo.Moumouni Kiemtoré, another livestock seller, seeks help from the authorities. He attributes high animal prices to the high cost of livestock feed.Source: Burkina Information Agency
