Ouagadougou: The second edition of the International Festival of Traditional Instruments and Dances of Ouagadougou (FITO), organized by the Association la Source, opened this Tuesday at the national museum with the aim of highlighting the musical instruments and traditional dance steps.'We noticed that there are musical instruments and traditional dance steps that are not known to the general public. This is why we are organizing this festival to highlight them for 72 hours,' declared the promoter of the International Festival of Traditional Instruments and Dances of Ouagadougou (FITO), Marc Koussoubé.This edition was sponsored by the Minister in charge of Culture, represented by the chairman of the board of directors of the Institute of Information and Communication Sciences and Techniques, Yemboini Pascal Thiombiano.It will be held from May 24 to 26, 2024 at the national museum located in the Dassasgho district of Ouagadougou.Several activities are on the program including performances by traditiona l dance troupes, instrumentalists and artists, visits to exhibitions at the national museum, exhibitions of traditional musical instruments.According to Pascal Thiombiano, turbaned on occasion by the Kal-Tamasheq community, this type of initiative should be strongly encouraged because culture allows many questions to be resolved.Culture is a factor of peace and social cohesion, important aspects for Burkina Faso in the current context, he will say.He also congratulated and encouraged the FITO organizers for the initiative before reassuring them of his principal's availability to always support them.All Burkinabè communities are honored at this edition of the festival, with a special mention to the Kal-Tamasheq community visibly mobilized to respond to the invitation.According to the representative of this community, Ibrahim AG Attahir, it is an honor and an opportunity offered to the Burkinabés to understand the culture of Kal-Tamashq, a community which, he continues, is quite often confused with th e Fulani while there are a big difference.He has arranged to meet festival-goers at a public conference tomorrow to identify the particularities of this community.Source: Burkina Information Agency
