Ousséni Kaboré Advocates for Implementation of NEKRE Pact in Burkina Faso’s Education Sector

Loumbila:The inspector of primary and non-formal education, Ousséni Kaboré, has addressed a contribution to Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, emphasizing the need for concrete actions to enhance the quality of education in Burkina Faso. Kaboré's proposals aim to improve the working conditions of educators and solidify the reforms launched by the NEKRE Pact.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Kaboré highlights the importance of collective commitment to reform Burkina Faso's schools, following the launch of the NEKRE Pact on October 17, 2026, in Kaya. He stresses that guidelines and commitments must lead to tangible improvements in schools and working conditions for staff.

Kaboré identifies key priorities, including restoring public trust in schools and addressing the educational needs of Burkinabe youth returning from other countries in the context of combating artisanal gold mining. He advocates for strengthening the connection between education, vocational training, and socio-economic integration.

Improving teachers' working conditions is a significant aspect of Kaboré's advocacy. He calls for adequately equipped classrooms, sufficient teaching materials, functional facilities, and better social protection and recognition for teachers. He also emphasizes the need for enhanced support for educational innovations, such as the introduction of English, national languages, and ICT.

Kaboré suggests that inspectors, vital in overseeing educational quality, require appropriate resources, including vehicles, fuel, maintenance budgets, and digital tools. He recommends a national assessment of the inspector-teacher ratio to better allocate resources.

Additionally, Kaboré proposes that the NEKRE Pact be supported by rigorous monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, with each commitment accompanied by a clear implementation schedule, financial resources, and performance indicators. He emphasizes the importance of reintegrating out-of-school youth, developing vocational training, improving infrastructure, and recognizing educational staff.

Through his contribution, Kaboré seeks to influence the national discussion on the future of Burkina Faso's education system, advocating for attention to the realities faced by those in the field.
