Population of Louda Unites to Repair Dam Dike in Sandbondtenga

Sandbondtenga: The population of Louda mobilizes for community work aimed at repairing the Louda dam dike. Under the impetus of His Excellency Naaba Tisse, chief of the canton of Louda, the population of Louda launched community work on Thursday aimed at repairing the dam of the Louda dam, which has been severely damaged by erosion and the wear and tear of time.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of the Louda rice cooperative initiated this project, emphasizing that the work involves gathering rubble, replacing what has been washed away, and reinforcing the dike with concrete. Volunteers have contributed by providing cement and aggregates, showcasing the community's commitment to preserving their essential water reservoir.

Naaba Tisse highlighted the importance of this water reservoir for the entire province of Sandbondtenga and called for a patriotic mobilization, particularly of young people, to complete the work before the first rains of the rainy season. 'We invited the people to repair the dike so that it would not give way under the effect of the waters when the rainy season arrives. Stones that protected it have been carried away by the currents,' said Naaba Tisse. He considers this an endogenous solution pending state intervention to address issues related to silting and infrastructure degradation.

Built in 1957 and developed in 1966 by Taiwan for rice cultivation, the Louda dam is now silted up and suffering from the wear and tear of time. It dries up during the dry season but irrigates over a thousand farms during the rainy season. According to the organizers, the community had already carried out several repairs.

This first day of work saw the participation of members of the national coordination of citizen watch associations (CNAVC), Sandbondtenga section, mobilized by Issa Lagvare, Head of Mission at the presidency for the Koulse region, who came to lend a hand.
