Sandbondtenga: The Samboaga Yaar school, in the Basic Education District (CEB) of Ziga, harvested its school garden on Monday for the 2025-2026 school year, intended to supply the canteen. Several varieties of vegetables, including onions, eggplants, tomatoes, and peppers, grown in this garden, were harvested by the students to enrich their meals.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the garden manager, Issaka Sana, mentioned that some of the harvested vegetables will be sold to facilitate the purchase of other ingredients to improve school meals. The school director, Boukary Oueda, emphasized that this garden links theory to practice, with each harvest yielding between 40 and 50 kg of vegetables.
For the director, the garden serves as a significant educational tool, combining practical learning with raising awareness about food self-sufficiency, beyond its nutritional benefits. The project has gained momentum through the involvement of educational staff, the community, and volunteers, fostering a sense of responsibility among children and enhancing their understanding of food self-sufficiency issues.
Lizeta Sawadogo, a volunteer, expressed her commitment to the project, noting that the garden introduces students to agricultural practices. Established during the 2024-2025 school year, the garden continues to yield various crops regularly.
This initiative aligns with the vision of His Excellency Captain Ibrahim Traore, President of Faso, who advocates for the development of local resources to bolster food self-sufficiency and endogenous development.
